Welches Bike hast Du gefahren?
Welche Geometrie hatte es? That's kinda ridiculous. That was my reaction. I rode my old yeti at Northstar. Albeit slowly. Ttimer Dec 20, at Despite the numbers, the Saturn non-ST is their trailbike.
A lot of companies don't cover bikepark use for their trailbikes if you look at the warranty fineprint. Ttimer : what other companies?
I've never heard of that before, and I'm not even sure how that would be enforceable given that the definition of bike park is pretty damn vague. Just check out Yoann Barelli on his road bike!
But that frame weighs 2. My local stuff is at least as rough a intermediate bike park trails. Having second thoughts.
They also list maximum stanchion diameter for the trail version at 34mm but complete builds can be configured with Pikes.
Which are And are entirely suited to trail bikes. Need a bit more of that attention to detail. I always thought it was about axle to crown and dual or single crown.
Nicolai isn't one for nonsense so I'm curious to see what's the reasoning behind this. And what their take on these linkage forks would be German-A etc.
Will-narayan Dec 21, at I just wouldn't expect such shallow reasoning from a company like Nicolai. If they don't want to see their frame subjected to certain riding styles then define that as such.
The combination of many years of professional experience and computer-based optimization software creates components that are second to none, both technically and optically.
The transmission is low-maintenance and optimally integrated into the bicycle frame. The central centre of gravity and the lighter rear wheel bring noticeable advantages in handling, driving dynamics and rear-end performance.
The transmission reacts to shift commands at lightning speed. The rear triangle of a full suspension bike is not a statically rigid component and is exposed to extreme loads during driving.
Critical points are the ball bearings, which ensure low breakaway torque and optimum response of the chassis.
In order to extend the maintenance intervals of the frame, Nicolai products rely exclusively on full complement, double-sealed ball bearings.
These are protected by two additional O-ring seals. Thus, the bearings are optimally protected against moisture and dirt. Full complement bearings have a higher load rating than standard ball bearings, as a higher number of balls are used in these bearings — in summary, they are more robust.
So that you can hit every lane on the trail, we mount a form-fit sliding, exchangeable dropout for track and camber adjustment on all frames.
Due to the differently milled, right dropouts for adjusting the lintel, the rear only needs to be slightly readjusted after installation.
This takes the strain off the material. The respective lintel height is milled into the RADO with the digits 0, 1, 2 or -1 and After the toe and camber have been set, the RADO is fixed ex works with a pin.
This makes the original setting easily reproducible during replacement. The manufacturing quality itself is not yet an added value for a customer.
Only if the welds are welded deep into the root and have no notches, a bike frame can withstand the impacts from the ground for many years without breaking.
Over the last 20 years, we have continuously optimized our production in order to further increase production quality and, of course, to be able to implement ever more sophisticated designs.
Of course you can also outsource a production, but then you have to plan a certain additional effort to check the processes at others.
We do not do this, because we manufacture everything in-house. However, this trivial fact leads to the next reason:. Customer-specific adaptation options Since we only manufacture a NICOLAI bike when we have received an order from a customer, it is easy for us to implement different wishes such as colour, train guidance or even a special geometry.
The possibilities and limits can be evaluated in a personal discussion with our sales and technical team. There are customers with whom we have been friends for 20 years and if after a few years of hard work a bearing needs to be changed or a frame needs a new coating, you can simply call the guys from the service department.
Most of the reasons lie in the past. Which bike did you ride? What was its geometry? What were your problems with that? Maybe back pain, aching knees or a sting in the neck?
Next we want to know your body measurements and mass, i. Which seating position do you prefer? Do you have health problems? What do you want to do with the bike?
Cross country racing or freeriding? Loose tours or steep trails? Which parts do you want to drive or retrofit later? Often, after a more precise evaluation of the information, we determine that a series frame can also fulfil your wishes.
However, if we notice that our series frames do not meet your requirements, we will design a dimensional geometry for you. We therefore guarantee spare parts availability of at least 10 years for all Nicolai products.
Like all Nicolai bikes, customisation is key. From the date of purchase you get 5 years warranty. We also ensure a ten-year supply of spare parts.
This is the only way to ensure our high quality standards in the long term. Open image lightbox. Read more. Bottle Holder Backpack, HipPack or classic bottle cage?
Rado Rear Aligning Dropout So that you can hit every lane on the trail, we mount a form-fit sliding, exchangeable dropout for track and camber adjustment on all frames.
However, this trivial fact leads to the next reason: Customer-specific adaptation options Since we only manufacture a NICOLAI bike when we have received an order from a customer, it is easy for us to implement different wishes such as colour, train guidance or even a special geometry.
In three words: 10 years spare parts availability We do not follow any trends, but test everything ourselves and come to our own convictions and that for 20 years.
I call it that: Durability and value stability The manufacture of products close to the customer is environmentally friendly.
Worn phrase: sustainability But back to the bikes. Click here for the colour samples! The longer it is, the more it will move fore-aft on rough terrain so the more it will mess with your chain tension.
My idea actually was to have a rear mech with a guide upper pulley only. The chain is tensioned by a lower chain guide like the Roox Cat or Dog, don't recall which.
The bb shakes much much less than the rear axle so it will be easier to keep the chain steady. But it is an idea I've had ever since I saw the Roox Cat and Dog so if I had patented the idea back then, it would already have expired.
Not sure how much of a stupid idea it is in the first place. If the rear mech doesn't have a lower guide, there will be little chain wrap over the upper guide.
Not sure whether it would be too little to function properly, but at least it is little. If you need more wrap, you're still going to need a second lower pulley at the rear mech even though the cage won't be able to rotate.
And once you introduce this many pulleys, people are probably going to complain about the complexity. But yeah, my initial idea was a single guide pulley at the rear mech and then a spring loaded lower chain guide pulley.
If that works, I think it could be better than conventional rear mechs. Lurch Nov 4, at All I can remember about them was that it made my bike sound like a Ducati with a dry clutch.
MMOF Nov 3, at This is beautiful but the problem I have with belt drive is common availability. I once volunteered at an aid station for the BC bike race and a rider came through with a belt drive.
His belt had torn and nobody had a spare to lend him not even the Shimano service guys. He had to borrow a bike to finish the day.
Nice idea but it needs to be more common place. That was just mindless idiocy if you ask me. In any case, if I was in the market I don't think this would be enough to turn me away from getting this..
That's pretty much always the case with any kind of new stuff. It needs to spread for spares to become more available, but if no one buys it because they're scared of spare part availability, it will never spread.
Afterschoolsports Nov 4, at Belts are pretty common in my neck of the woods. You would be able to find one at many lbs near me.
Still rockin that super tough bronze anodised finish I see I had that on my Helius cc 15 years back,. NM, it's a tension bar according to Nicolai's website: Wondering what that black thing is hidden behind the shock and seat-tube?
Every iteration of the Saturn since has featured a tension bar. This is an extra connection between the lower shock bolt and the rocker link pivot, why?
When the suspension bottoms out at full compression, forces continue to try and move these pivot points away from each other you can see many frames break around this area.
The tension bar resists this and keeps the maximum forces in check, meaning that lighter tubing and machined parts can be used in this area to reduce overall weight.
KellChris Nov 3, at If seen on a trail here in Washington state people would confuse it for an eBike and demand Evergreen deploy the black helicopters.
Explodo Nov 3, at I'm really excited for gearboxes to get good someday. Whoever cracks that nut will own the market within 2 years. Whoever it is had better have a damned trigger shift option because I'll simply not get one if I have to go grip-shift.
Milko3D Nov 3, at I think I could easily get used to the gripshift, if all the fabled advantages turn true, that'll be the least to worry about!
Heck, if I had spare cash to burn I'd get one right now, out of curiosity if nothing else. Wish them all the luck, would love for this to be the future.Nicolai's Saturn 14 has been around for over half a year now, and with the ever-growing popularity of short travel bikes with big intentions it has been hugely popular for the brand.
